Our Specialist Services

Building Services

Building Services is our core discipline. We provide design services and engineering advice on projects from small alterations through to the very largest commercial schemes. In addition to new design we have an extensive track record of working in existing building, adapting and reusing services rather than simply renewing them. We appreciate that good engineering is that much meets the project requirements – both commercial and technical. Engineering choices have to be compliant and affordable and consisted with the commercial needs of a project, which may mean a low tech repair rather than a high tech replacement.

Expert Witnesses

Senior staff at Peter Deer and Associates have acted as expert witnesses in both litigation and informal problem resolution. We bring a practical approach to dealing with what can be very complex matters.

Property Acquisition

Prompt and candid advice is essential in property acquisition. At Peter Deer and Associates, we strive to give a balanced view on the M&E services linking the advice to the commercial circumstances. The commercial position can significantly change the decision to keep or replace plant.

Thermal Modelling

Dealing with the requirements of Part L. BREEAM and confirming sustainability at planning stage entails the provision of energy advice that is verifiable from an accredited modelling tool. We utilise HEVACOMP, a widely used tool accepted for design and energy.

Planning Support

Sustainability and energy use is now a key issue for planners and may significantly affect the form and arrangement of a building. There are no longer ‘deemed to satisfy’ levels of performance in the Building Regulations; each building must be uniquely analysed. Peter Deer and Associates provides thermal modelling, daylight assessment, SUDS design and provide pre planning advice on plant location, noise and utility connections to ensure that the planning submission can be turned into a practical building.

Lifts and Escalators

Peter Deer and Associates has undertaken the design of many specialist lift installation in addition to providing design more conventional installations. Engineering the requirements of fire fighting escape and BREEAM all affect the design and configuration of the lifts and other engineering installation. We do not look at the lift as a separate pile of engineering, but as an integral part of the service’s installation.

Day and Artificial Lighting

Lighting consumes a significant proportion of the energy used in a building minimising the need for artificial lighting requires careful management of design and the careful integration of day lighting to avoid glare and overheating. Using a mix of experience and structure tools, we work closely with a design team and interior designers to creates beautiful low energy space.

Sustainability Statements

Sustainability is considered from the very earliest stages of the planning process. Each Planning Department has its own particular requirements based on environmental pressures and focal factors. Information provided to each department has to be tailored to meet these particular requirements with engineering clearly identified so it can be easily assessed by non-technical staff as part of the registration process. We have extensive experience of tailoring engineering statements so they can be understood by non-technical people.

Automation, AV and Building Control

Modern buildings contain progressively more complex electronic and data systems. Managing the interfaces between these is now a key point in design and specification. Selecting compliable systems from the outset is vital for economy and affective operation. At Peter Deer and Associates, we work with the client, design team and specialists to develop solutions that give the best value without incorporating unnecessary and expensive elements that don’t add value.
